    Maybe you could include a button that would show the menu.  I know you can press Alt to see it, but some people don't.

    Let me do some thinking on this... I've seen how some different up-and-coming software is handling this so just need to decide where I'd like to take it.  For now though, since the items on the menu aren't "mission critical" or (in some cases) "work in progress", I think having it hidden and having to know the special key to get it to open is probably a good idea.  In the future, this will obviously change.

    The menu has been redone.  You can now toggle it using the Alt key or click on the glyph in the upper right hand corner to show the menu (or just access the menu items directly.)  Clicking on it when the menu is visible will hide the menu.
